Beyond Contact - Characters and Units

Here are some of the character work that i did for Beyond Contact - as someone who isn't really a character artist, it was a chance for me to do something that I really wanted to accomplish ever since I started working for video games - to have at least one character asset in a video game.

Shown here is the basic form and colors that the other playable character has at the start.

Here's the wireframe for the previous render.

Lizard Character (View 2)

Here's an alternate view of the same character - when I was thinking about this I hoped the tail would be used as an extra limb of sorts!

Lizard Character (View 2, Wireframe)

Shown here is the wireframes for the previous picture.

Lizard Character (Close Up)

Underneath the helmet, one can see how reptilian the character looks.

Lizard Character (Close Up, Wireframe))

There's a lot of geometry in this view - a lot of polys were put here for the animator to put in a wide range of movement.

Lizard Character (Base Variant))

Now, shown here is the basic suit for the Lizard Character - without the character inside.

Lizard Character (Base Variant, Wireframe))

Now shown here is the wireframe for the character's suit.

Lizard Character (Tier 1 Variant)

Shown here is the first tier suit for the character that can be made early in-game - this is my personal favorite as this just looks really dashing.

Lizard Character (Tier 1 Lizard Character (Tier 2 Variant, Wireframe)

This now shows the first tier's wireframes - notice the polys in the scarf.

Lizard Character (Tier 2 Variant)

Increasingly, the suit tiers for this character become much more mechanical - as can be seen in the second tier here.

Lizard Character (Tier 2 Variant, Wireframe)

In the wireframe, one can look at the areas where I added extra geometry, such as the helmet - for the bakes to render cleanly.

Lizard Character (Tier 3 Variant)

This is the pinnacle of the tiers in game - the character almost looks robotic inside this third tier suit.

Lizard Character (Tier 3 Variant, Wireframe)

Shown here is the wireframes for the third tier of this character's suits.

Lizard Character (Oxygen Vest Variant)

This is a special kind of suit that can maximize one's breathing in-game, as the name suggests.

Lizard Character (Oxygen Vest Variant, Wireframe)

One can notice in the wireframe that I recycled a lot of parts from the basic suit.

Lizard Character (Heat Vest Variant)

In-game, this suit can provide your character with protection in extremely hot environments.

Lizard Character (Heat Vest Variant, Wireframe)

In the wireframe, one can see the polys I devoted to the robe, so that it can keep up with any running motions.

Stalker

For the next character, here's the Corvex - an enemy unit that can cloak itself and sneak behind you.

Stalker (Wireframe)

A lot of polys were added to the tongue, as it would need to lash the player with it.

Cence

Now here is Cence, an NPC for one of the side quests the character must do, and the first character in game that I ever did.

Cence (Wireframe)

Shown here are the wireframes for this character.

Clawtooth

This other NPC named Clawtooth that I made is another personal favorite of mine - the spiky frills and the huge fish skull were a delight to make.

Clawtooth_Wireframe

There's a lot of polys here in the wireframe, as I had to make sure it can be animated in it's full glory.
